This month marks the launch point of many adventures I started last June when I decided to take on the paintbrush fulltime. This is a departure from previous blogs and is a listing of those events and hints of what will be there and what is to come. Insight blog to follow soon :-). On Friday, June 1st, I will be part of a new beginning. We are opening a new gallery in downtown Raleigh during First Friday, 6-9pm. Our official Grand Opening slated for June 15, 6-10pm, and will feature new works and live music. My work and that of six others is located at 428 S. McDowell Street in the heart of Downtown Raleigh. It has been quite an undertaking of painting, spackling, up-fitting, negotiating and advertising new fronts all! I am excited to be part of such a great group of creative, fun and motivated people. Just to mention my awesome art entrepreneurs, they are Lori White, Rick Bennett, Susan Jones, Linda Eddins, Tunde Afolayan, and Allen Clapp.
In addition to our new space, I am exhibiting at localcolor gallery, 22 South Glenwood, Raleigh, with Christine Harvaitt for the month of June 1-31. This is where I will physically be First Friday, June 1, 6-9pm. Our show title is “Embracing Structure”. I concentrate on the structural side of my work exploring architectural structures, light and shadow. Christine’s work features colorfully playful interpretation of structure and organic imagery.
I am also working on an exciting piece for the Jimmie Johnson Foundation slated for auction in San Diego at the annual Jimmie Johnson Foundation Golf Tournament http://jimmiejohnsonfoundation.org/events/annual-golf-tournament/. I am creating a piece that is 24″x48″, oil on canvas of an unusual house I pass often off the beaten path in Virginia. I am adding little elements here and there that I hope will make it a conversation piece. About my work, “there is always something hidden.” ;-)
Our final June endeavors, Susan Jones and I journey to Asheville on June 30th for a weekend of Art in the Park held in Ashville’s Pack Square Park. https://sites.google.com/site/ashevilleartinthepark2012/ “Take a stroll around the Vance Monument and Hoss Haley’s marvelous fountain and experience the textures and forms of a truly unique garden. You will not only be participating in an art market, but you will be part of a cycle of giving as 10% of the proceeds from the event will be donated to a local art non-profit organization.” And you will get to see my art in a different context and with exclusive smaller works and cards.” AND we are creating not one, but two! Cow Parade Cows for auction benefitting the UNC Children’s Hospital. http://cowparadenc.com/ This month promises great adventure and little sleep! Exciting!!!!! :-)
